Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) hosted the Final Round and Closing Ceremony of Sixth Bangladesh Qualifying Round Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition on Saturday, February 19, 2022, in hybrid mode.
Mr. Justice Obaidul Hassan, Hon’ble Judge, Appellate Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh, was present as the chief guest. He said that he was highly impressed to see the skills and development of law students in Bangladesh. He also expressed hopes that Bangladesh would get very good quality lawyers in the near
future.
IUB Vice Chancellor Tanweer Hasan, PhD, presided over the program. He said, “I firmly believe injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere and we need more defenders of justice around the world than ever before. When humankind is grappling with existential crises such as climate change or a pandemic, we need
such people to realize the strength of good judgment and peaceful settlement of disputes.”
The mooting battles were organized by Jessup Bangladesh in association with International Law Students Association (ILSA), OPDAT, Department of Justice, U.S. Embassy, Dhaka and Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) and supported by Old Bailey and Uqeel. The largest gathering of future legal minds of Bangladesh
has ended with the finding of the advancing teams for the 2022 International Rounds.
The Eastern University Team emerged as the new Bangladesh Champion while Brac University Team became the Runners Up. The Brac University team also bagged the “Best Memorial Award” and Tarazi Mohammed Sheikh of the same team clinched the award of the Best Mooter with her commending performance. Team
Chittagong Independent University made their maiden appearance remarkable with the Best New Team Award while Dhaka International University was recognized for their indomitable spirit with the Spirit of the Jessup Award.
