The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on Thursday called a countrywide dawn-to-dusk general strike for December 15 in protest at the execution of its assistant secretary general Abdul Quader Molla, convicted of committing crimes against humanity in the independence war in 1971.
The acting Jamaat amir Makbul Ahmad in a statement called on people to build up resistance against ‘the government’s brutality’ and face the situation with patience.
He termed the execution a ‘brutal killing.’
The party announced that it would hold ghayebana janaza across the country on December 13, hold prayer sessions for martyred intellectuals, including ‘martyred’ Quader Molla, on December 14 and hold discussions on December 16 on the occasion of Victory Day, the statement said.
