Reigning Bangladesh Premier League champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and runners-up Abahani Limited will leave for Bhutan today to take part in the King’s Cup Football Tournament, beginning on November 15. Both the sides will be participating in the tournament with a hope to reach the final which are also expected to be a great preparation for them for the upcoming Premier League season.
Nine teams, including Bangladesh’s Jamal and Abahani, will participate in the tournament, splitting into two groups.
Jamal were drawn with Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan FC, Nakhon Ratchashing Mazda of Thailand and Druk United FC in Group A. Abahani, on the other hand, have been drawn together with Assam Electricity of India, MMC of Nepal, Osotspa of Thailand and Ugyen Academy of Bhutan in Group B.
In the opening day, Jamal will face local side Druk United FC while Abahani will take on Assam Electricity in their first match the next day on November 16. Top two teams from each group will progress into the semi-finals.
