Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club begin their campaign in the King’s Cup against Bhutan national league champions Druk United FC at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu today.
Bangladesh Premier League champions feared freezing conditions of Thimphu at more than 7600 feet above sea level could be a stumbling block. Coach Maruful Haque said players are having some berating problems due to the height and temperature which was minus seven degree Celsius on Friday.
‘The main problem with my players that they are yet to adapt to the unusual conditions of Thimphu,’ Maruful Haque told reporters on Friday.
‘The height is also a concern for my team because they are struggling to breathe normally due to it,’ he said.
Maruful, however, was hopeful that his side will start the competition on a winning note.
‘Though we are going to face an unknown opponent in the very first match, I’m confident that the team will play good and attacking football to earn a win.
‘We have a fully fit squad who are well capable of going all the way in this tournament,’ said a confident Maruf.
The match is scheduled to start at 4:00pm Bangladesh standard time.
Meanwhile, BPL runners-up Abahani Limited will face Assam Electricity of India in their first match on Saturday.
