Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited will begin their IFA Shield campaign today against local giant Kolkata Mohammedan Sporting Club at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.
The Dhanmondi-based football powerhouse are set to play six foreign players in their opening Group B match while regular captain Mamunul Islam will be unavailable due to injury.
Haitian playmaker Sony Norde will lead Sheikh Jamal’s attacking line-up alongside compatriot Wedson Anselme and Nigerian forward Emeka Darlington.
Sheikh Jamal manager Anwarul Karim Helal said that he was confident that the Bangladeshi top-flight club will reach the final of the fourth-oldest domestic cup competition.
‘We have been preparing ourselves for months and we can say we are well prepared for the tournament,’ said Helal adding that, ‘Hopefully we will win [today] and get closer to our main target of progressing to the final.’
Meanwhile, Kolkata Mohammedan will play their second match today as they drew 1-1 with United Sikkim in their opening match on Friday.
Sheikh Jamal will face United Sikkim FC on February 4 and Mohun Bagan on February 6.
