Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club dashed Team BJMC with a huge 7-0 defeat to advance to the quarterfinal of the Federation Cup as Group A champions at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Friday. The reigning champions faced no pressure to manage the win despite their coach Maruful Haque rested four main players. Maruf observed his side bench by providing them an opportunity and the players responded brilliantly.
Despite the absence of Captain Nasiruddin Chowdhury, Mamunul Islam, Jamal Bhuiyan and Nigerian striker Emeca Darlington, Jamal ruled the roost from the beginning till end.
Haitian striker Wedson Enselme recorded the first hat-trick of the tournament to ensure the biggest victory of the meet so far.
Sohel Rana, Kesto Kumar, new Haitian recruit Leonel Saint Preux and substitute forward Rubel Miah netted one apiece for Jamal.
The last season semi-finalist BJMC, who suffered 0-3 defeat against Feni Soccer Club in their first match, conceded a total of 10 goals in their two matches but couldn’t even score a single goal.
Jamal will now play with Group D runners-up Brothers Union, who ensured the last eight despite being winless in the group stage.
Brothers played a 1-1 draw with Mohammedan at the same day to ensure the knock-out stage with two points.
Haitian Augustine Walson put Brothers ahead in the 59th minute while Towhidul Alam Sabuj leveled the margin six minutes later.
Mohammedan will face Feni Soccer Club in the last-eight match.
