Security money of the mayoral candidate of Jatiya Party Shafiqul Islam Madhu will stand forfeited as he failed to poll one-eighth of the total votes cast in the
KCC election as per the electoral code of conduct.
Besides, 72 councillor candidates, including 18 of reserved seats, will also lose their security money.
According to the returning officer, 3,08,435 out of a total of 4,40,569 votes were cast in 288 polling centres.
So, a candidate for mayoral post will have to poll 38,435 votes to save his security money.
But Jatiya party mayoral candidate Madhu polled only 3,076 votes cast in his favour.
On the other hand, 54 out of 137 candidates, who contested for councilor posts from 31 wards, will also lose their security money as they could not poll required votes.
Similarly, security money of 18 out of 45 councilor candidates who contested from ten reserved seats for women will also stand forfeited.
They are Mosammat Reba Sultana, Rozina Begum and Laila Arjuman Ara of ward 1, Monira Bashir, Binu Islam and Reshma Begum of ward 2, Depali Rani Roy and Sajia Akhter Kalpana of ward 4, Naznin Nahar Beauty and Lubna Ara of ward 5, Hasina Begum of ward 6, Monowara Sultana Kakoli of ward 7, Shahnoor Begum of ward 9, Lucky Khan, Lovely Begum, Laila Islam, Sahana Parvin and Hosne Ara Begum Chadni of ward 10.
