GM Quader, a Jatiya Party presidium member, said on Friday JP will not join the coming election, reaffirming his party’s position. “There is no scope for any confusion over party’s stand regarding participation in the next polls,” Quader, brother of JP Chairman HM Ershad and former commerce minister, told a press conference at his Uttara residence. JP sources said the press conference was called to make the JP stand clear as confusion has been created following statements made by some party leaders, who are still in the poll-time government. He said,‘‘ Our party chairman is HM Ershad. As he can not directly talk now, party’s secretary general Ruhul
Amin Hawlader and I are authorised to make his directives public.”
‘‘If any one (excepting us) tells anything on behalf of Ershad, should not be reckoned with,” Quader added.
His (Ershad) position of not joining the polls remains unchanged, he claimed.
He said: “We have withdrawn our nomination papers for not participating in election, but those have not been accepted on technical ground. But we are not in the race anyway.”
Quader said he has resigned from the cabinet and that he is no longer a minister and not using car or enjoying any other facilities. “Now it is the responsibility of the government to issue a gazette notification on our resignation from the poll time cabinet”, the former minister said.
As Quader was about to wind-up his press conference, a procession of Jubo League and Chatrra League, youth and student wings of ruling Awami League, stopped in front of his residence. The activists of the two AL fronts shouted slogans against JP leaders.
