Bangladesh Under-19 team wasted their opportunity to clinch the series as they lost to their South African counterparts in the fifth match of the seven-match series by 34 runs at Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday.
Despite the loss Bangladesh lead the series 3-2 after they achieved a 6-1 victory against the same side earlier in the year at home. Chasing the South African total of 183-6, Bangladesh were off to a disastrous start losing three wickets for 13 runs and being reduced to 6-48 .
They were finally dismissed for 149 runs in 31 overs in a game a reduced to a 38-over per side affair due to rain and bad light.
Bangladesh skipper Mehedi Hasan helped his recover from a poor start to score 67 but could not finish the game off. Mosabbek Hossain (40) aided him in rescue act with a 80-run seventh wicket stand
Earlier, the young Proteas batted first after losing the toss and amassed the total thanks to 56 from Mulder and 42 from Galiem.
Mehedi Hasan and Saleh Ahmed picked up two wickets while Abdul Halim grabbed one wicket for the visitors.
The sixth match of the series will take place in Durban on Friday.
