The government has formed a two-member probe committee to settle the prevailing crisis at Jahangirnagar University (JU) over a movement by a section of its teachers demanding removal of the Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Anwar Hossain. The education ministry issued a circular on Monday asking the committee to file its report within 15 days. The committee would work to get resolve the ongoing crisis and ensure the development of the entire academic atmosphere of the university.
M Mohibur Rahman, member of the University Grants Commission (UGC) will be the panel’s convener and Mohammad Ahsanul Zabbar, joint secretary (college) of the education ministry, a member.
The panel has been formed as per the directive of the President Abdul Hamid, who is also the chancellor of the university, the circular said.
The crisis started on April 6 when Rajib Ahmed Rasel, general secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League JU unit, a student body associated with the ruling Awami League, assaulted a teacher.
