A section of Jahangirnagar University teachers, under the banner of General Teachers Forum, on Monday held a demonstration on the campus protesting the irregularities of vice-chancellor Anwar Hossain. Teachers formed the protest rally at about 12:00 in front of the university administration building. Teachers alleged that Anwar Hossain had appointed pro-vice chancellor professor MA Matin as dean of the business studies faculty, which is a complete violation of the Jahangirnagar University Act, 1973.
They added that treasurer Abul Khaiyer had been performing duties as the dean of biological science faculty at the same time, which was also violation of the act.
General Teachers Forum member secretary Kamrul Islam said that according to the university act 1973, no one could hold two positions at the same time.
Convener of the forum Hanif Ali said that Anwar Hossain, by neglecting university’s1973 act, distributing post among some common faces since his appointment.
While another group of teachers under the banner of Bangabandhur Adarsha o Muktijuddher Chetonay Biswashi Sikkhak Samaj expressed their support to the movement of General Teachers Forum.
Sikkhak Samaj leaders also alleged that Anwar Hossain had issued a threat to Jahanara Emam Hall provost Shamal Kumar Datta asked him to resign from his post as he included his name to the written statement of General Teachers Forum which was demanding the resignation Anwar Hossain.
