Teachers of Jahangirnagar University on Monday pledged to continue their movement against Professor Anwar Hossain, vice-chancellor, demanding his resignation
over irregularities since his appointment last year.
The university teachers’ association declared this at a press conference on the campus.
Professor Sharif Uddin, JUTA secretary, said the VC had lost his ethical right to hold the post as he showed reluctance to punish the culprits behind the assault of a teacher.
A teacher of economics department and Nurul Haque, senate member, were assaulted by Razib Ahmed Rasel, secretary of Chhatra League of JU unit, on
April 6.
Protesting at the assault, a large section of teacher besieged the VC’s residence demanding punishment of the attackers while the VC verbally expelled BCL leader but no
notice was issued in this regards.
Sharif Uddin said at the press meeting said the VC gave assurance of expelling Razib but finally withdrew his decision after being pressured by the BCL activists.
The teachers gave a seven-day ultimatum to Anwar Hossain from Sunday to resign from his post and threatened to launch tougher movements.
Ajit Kumar Majumder, JUTA president, Professor Ameer Hossain, Jamal Uddin Runu and Fazlul Karim Patwari, dean of social science faculty, addressed the meeting.
