Jahangirnagar University is going to celebrate its 42nd anniversary on January 12 amid much enthusiasm and festivity on the campus.
The university authorities have planned a daylong programme on the occasion, termed as the JU Day, says a press release of the university on Thursday while the decision has been taken in an emergency syndicate meeting on Wednesday.
The JU vice-chancellor, Professor Anwar Hossain, is expected to formally inaugurate the days’ programmes.
On the day, the national and university flags will be hoisted at 10:00am in front of the business studies faculty.
Following this, a colourful procession will be brought out with the participation of the present and former students, teachers and staff of the university.
Later, a reminiscence programme, followed by a cultural programme, will be held on the university amphitheatre (muktomancha).
JU’s departments and institutions will also arrange separate reunion programmes for the former and current students and teachers.
The programme includes opening rally, discussion session, honourary reception, reminiscence, sports and cultural function.
The university was formally launched with 150 students in four departments — geography and environment, mathematics, statistics and economics — on January 12, 1971.
