Professor Anwar Hossain has finally resigned as the vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University, after nearly a year-long protest by teachers, students and staff of the university.
Talking to this correspondent yesterday, Anwar Hossain said, ‘I have sent my resignation letter to President Abdul Hamid, the chancellor of the university’. On January 12, the Jahangirnagar University day, Professor Anwar announced that he will resign as JU VC.
In a reaction JU Teachers’ Association President Professor Ajit Kumar Majumder said they took the decision as a sign of victory for their movement.
JU pro-VCs Professor MA Matin (Education) and Afsar Ahmed (Administration) both are now hoping to become the university VC. The government may appoint Professor MA Matin for six months as the acting VC, sources added.
