Leg-spinner Jubair Hossain continued to shine with the cheirry as his four-wicket haul helped Bangladesh Under-19 team dismiss their Sri Lankan counterparts for a modest 185 runs on the second day of the four-day game at the Sylhet Divisional Stadium on Wednesday.
Jubair, who picked up eight wickets in the first four-day match in Dhaka, ripped through the Sri Lankan middle-order claiming 4-35 and restricted the opposition from piling up a huge total in the first innings before Bangladesh made 19-0 to trail by 166 runs at the close of the day.
Resuming the day at 23-0 as rain-interference allowed only 5.2 overs of play on day-1, Sri Lankan opener Kushal Mendis and Hashan Dumindo (23) added 45 runs to their overnight score be
fore Bangladesh got the first breakthrough by removing a dangerous looking Kushal after he had completed his half-century.
The Sri Lankan skipper was looking to be in fine touch making 54 from 83 balls with nine fours before Rifat Pradhan broke the opening partnership that produced 74 runs.
Soon the host bowlers started to dominate the proceedings as Sri Lanka were 109-4 before Minod Bhanuka (23) and Pawan Devinda (32) added 37 runs for the fifth wicket to resurrect the innings.
But soon after Minod was removed by Nehaduzzaman, the batting-order of the visitors collapsed as the last five wickets added only 39 runs to take the total to 185 runs.
Jubair was ably supported by Mehedi Hasan and Mosaddek Hossain as they picked up two wickets each.
Mosaddek claimed 2-19 while Mehedi coming in as the sixth bowler looked to be unplayable as he gave away only one run for his two scalps after bowling four maiden overs out of his five.
Opener Sadman Anik (6) and Nazmul Hasan (12) saw off the day’s play without any trouble, putting 19 runs on the board.
