The first-ever Junior School Certificate and Junior Dakhil Certificate examinations for the students of class VIII will begin on November 4.
Some 15 lakh 20 thousand and 731 students across the country will sit for the exams under eight general education boards and one madrassha education board, education minister Nurul Islam Nahid said at a press briefing at the ministry on Monday.
Some 12 lakh 48 thousand and 78 from candidates from schools will take part in the JSC examinations to conclude on November 14.
And two lakh 72 thousand and 653 students from madrasshas will sit for the JDC exams which will end on November 15.
The number of candidates could eventually increase as some schools and madrasshas were yet to finalise their enrolment, the minister said.
According to the announced routine for the JSC examinations, examinations of two papers of Bangla and English will be held on the same day—the first paper in the morning and the second in the afternoon.
Two exams in a same day was proposed for finishing the exams in a short time, which would not create problems in preparation as Bangla was the first exam and there was a two-day gap before English exams, Nurul Islam Nahid said replying to a question.
Each subject of the JDC exam, however, will be held on separate days.
About publishing the results before the next year, Nahid assured that the results would be published before December 31 at any cost.
To publish the results in a short time, the boards would increase the number of examiners, said Dhaka education board’s chairperson Fahima Khatun.
Besides, the education ministry decided to start this year’s final examinations for other classes from November 29 instead of November 24 and to reduce special holidays meant for head teachers to one day from three, the education minister said at the news briefing.
These decisions were taken to make up the ‘loss’ of six working days during August 14 and 21 for an earlier Eid vacation, he added.
