Bangladesh were eliminated from the Under-19s Asia Cup after losing their final Group B match by two wickets to Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
The Junior Tigers won the toss and posted 203-6 in the first innings, led again by Nazmul Hossain Shanto, who posted his second successive fifty of the tournament with 62 off 88 balls.
The Sri Lankans stuttered at the start of their chase, falling to 25-2 after 8.2 overs, but Kusal Mendis’ 91 and Priyamal Perera’s 66 not out set them on course for victory.
A late flurry of wickets dropped Sri Lanka to 193-8, but they reached 206-8 in 48.1 overs to seal the result without further incident.
The result sent Sri Lanka, who entered play with the best net run-rate in the group, through to the semi-finals as group winners with four points.
Bangladesh and Afghanistan both also finished on four points, but the latter claimed the second semi-final spot by virtue of a better net run-rate after chasing down Malaysia’s 40 all out in just 3.2 overs in the day’s other match.
