Amid love and grief, people from all walks of life today bade farewell to former president Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed.
The former chief justice was laid to rest in Dhaka’s Banani graveyard around 12:15pm, reports The Daily Star, quoted Supreme Court Spokesman Md Saifur Rahman as saying.
Earlier, his body was kept at National Eidgah Field on the Supreme Court premises for around one hour from 10am when SC judges, former judges, lawyers, law officers, political leaders and Justice Shahabuddin’s family members paid their last tributes to him.
After his second namaz-e-janaza on National Eidgah field, Shahabuddin’s body was taken to Banani Graveyard for his burial.
Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, former chief justices Syed Mahmud Hossain and Md Muzammel Hossain, judges of the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the SC, lawyers of the SC, acting attorney general SM Munir, some deputy attorney generals, and government and SC officials concerned attended the janaza.
They paid tribute to Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed, placing wreaths on his coffin.
The chief justice has suspended all judicial functions of the Appellate and High Court Divisions for today in honour of Justice Shahabuddin.
Justice Shahabuddin passed away at Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH) yesterday at the age of 92.
His first janaza was held at his ancestral village in Netrakona yesterday.
