Kalabagan Krira Chakra broke their duck in the Dhaka Premier League on the back of a brilliant century from Zimbabwean batsman Hamilton Masakadza as they defeated Cricket Coaching School by 49 runs at Fatullah on Friday. Masakadza struck 115 off 104 balls as Mashrafee bin Muratza-led Kalabagan posted an impressive 270-9 at Fatullah before restricting CCS to 221-8 for their first win in four matches.
Veteran spinner Abdur Razzak claimed 4-32 to condemn CCS their fourth defeat in as many matches, which kept them at the bottom of the table alongside Kalabagan Cricket Academy after the end of fourth round.
Masakadza became the first overseas cricketer to hit a century in the ongoing league as he carried the team almost single-handedly after coming to the crease in just third over of the match.
Asked to bat first, Kalabagan lost opener Jashimuddin cheaply but Masakadza and Sadman Islam put 78-run for the second wicket steady the innings. Opener Shadman Islam provided Masakadza, who hit 10 fours and two sixes, with 47 off 63 balls.
Tasamul Haque was the only other cricketer to give some support to the Zimbabwean making 37 off 54 balls.
Spinner Nasum Ahmed was the pick of bowlers for CCS by claiming 3-47 while Salman Hossain and Uttam Sarkar bagged 2-49 and 2-25 respectively.
In reply, CSS lost their opener Amit Majumder for just 12 to Mashrafee but Pinak Ghosh 42 off 54 balls and Saif Hasan 34 off 63 balls contributed 69 runs in the second wicket stand.
CCS suffered a double blow when Razzak dismissed both Pinak and Saif with the team’s score on 89 while captain Rajin could make only 27.
Reeling at 6-154 in 42-4 overs, Uttam Sarkar tried to lift the side with 63 off 74 balls but CCS were always behind from their required run rate.
Mashrafee bowled Uttam in the final over to finish with 2-43 and complete a comprehensive win.
