Calls on Khaleda
Kazi Zafar Ahmed formed a new faction on Friday, a day after his expulsion from Jatiya Party by its chairman HM Ershad. Kazi Zafar is the chairman of the new faction while Golam Mosih the secretary general, according to a press release. The faction was formed after a meeting at Mosih’s Gulshan residence attended by a good number of leaders of the party and its affiliated organisations, said the release.
The full committee will be announced in the second week of January, it said.
Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad on Thursday expelled Kazi Zafar Ahmed, a presidium member of JP, for ‘violation of party discipline’. Hours after, Kazi Zafar, in a statement, also expelled chairman Ershad from the party for ‘violating section 20(1)(ka) of the party constitution’.
On Friday evening, Kazi Zafar visited the main opposition leader and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office.
Kazi Zafar led a 15-member delegation during the meeting with Khaleda.
UNB adds: Kazi Zafar at the meeting expressed solidarity with the opposition’s ongoing movement demanding that the national election be held under a non-party administration.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, the former minister said he reconstituted the committee of Jatiya Party by removing its chief HM Ershad. “I’m the chairman of the new committee and Ghulam Moshi its secretary general.”
Asked whether he talked about the upcoming parliamentary election with Khaleda, he said, “We discussed with the opposition leader various issues, including the election and movement. We’re expressing solidarity with the ongoing movement for holding the election under a non-party government.”
The other delegation members include Gulam Moshi, Moulana Mujibur Rahman Juktibadi, who recently quit Ershad-led Jatiya Party, and JP presidium member Golam Habib Dulal.
