American actor Kevin Spacey will stand trial in New York in connection with a civil complaint brought against him for allegedly sexually abusing a minor boy, reports the BBC.
Anthony Rapp, an actor and singer, accused Kevin Spacey of improperly assaulting him at a party in 1986, at the height of the #MeToo movement in 2017. At the time, Rapp was fourteen.
Best recognized for his roles in “American Beauty” and “House of Cards,” Spacey has refuted the accusations.
Several additional men, in addition to Rapp, have accused Spacey of sexual harassment and assault.
The federal courthouse in Manhattan will host the trial.
Rapp had made the claims in a conversation with Buzzfeed. According to what he claimed, Spacey picked him up and lay down partially on top of him.
Rapp had claimed, “I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually. He is asking for $40 million in compensation.
On the same day as the accusations, Spacey had offered an apology to Rapp. Additionally, he had come out as gay, which angered the LGBTQ community.
He commented on his social media accounts, “If I did behave then as he alleges, I offer him the sincerest apology for what would have been extremely inappropriate intoxicated behavior.”
Netflix discontinued its relationship with Spacey when the claims against him came to light, shelving his project “Gore” and letting him go from the political thriller “House of Cards.”
Additionally, he was cut from Ridley Scott’s “All the Money in the World,” which was reshot with Christopher Plummer in the lead role.
After the allegations, Spacey only participated in the 2018 film “Billionaire Boys Club.” The accusations came before the movie was finished.
However, upcoming films like “The Man Who Drew God” and “Peter Five Eight” will see Spacey return to the big screen.
Kevin Spacey has won four Screen Actors Guild Awards, a Tony Award, two Laurence Olivier Awards, and two Academy Awards. He also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
