The Awami League led 14-party leaders on Tuesday accused BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia of hatching a conspiracy to oust the government creating an anarchic situation in the city by using the Hefazat men on Sunday. “Opposition leader Khaleda Zia wanted to create anarchy in the city using Hefazat-e-Islam leaders and activists to oust an elected government, but her evil design did not succeed,” said Mohammad Nasim, AL presidium member and coordinator of the 14-party.
He was addressing a post-meeting news conference at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office.
Criticising the Hefazat men heavily for unleashing vandalism in the city on Sunday, Nasim alleged that the BNP Chairperson had instigated the Hefazat men to carry out such violent act on the day. That’s why she will have to bear the responsibility of the massacre, he added.
Speaking at the conference, Awami League advisory council member Tofail Ahmed alleged that BNP was spreading lies about the Monday morning incident to mislead the nation.
He also claimed that the members of law enforcement agencies dispersed the Hefazat men peacefully and no casualty was found during the drive.
Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon said, BNP has again started to enforce hartal like programme. There’s no use of such programme to realise its demand.
Among others, Awami League presidium member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal president Mainuddin Khan Badal and Awami League organising secretary AFM Bahauddin
Nasim were also present at the conference.
The 14-party leaders said, in no way the opposition leader could escape the blame for the Monday morning massacre as she had extended support to Dhaka-siege programme of Hifazat-e-Islami and called upon her party leaders as well as the city dwellers to stand beside them.
They also urged the government to take legal action against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Hefazat Chief Allahma Shah Ahmad Shafi for Sunday’s violence in the city’s Shapla Chattar at Motijheel commercial area.
