The Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson, Khaleda Zia, returned home on Tuesday after performing umrah in Makkah.
Khaleda along with her entourage boarding a flight of Emirates Airlines arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at about 6:00pm.Leaders and activists of the BNP and its associate organisations received Khaleda, also the leader of the opposition, at the airport.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee member MK Anwar, vice-chairman Altaf Hossain Chowdhury and Dhaka city BNP convenor Sadeque Hossain, among others, were present at the airport.
During her nine-day stay in Saudi Arabia, Khaleda performed umrah and offered prayers at Masjid-Al-Haram in Makkah and Masijid-e-Nabawi in Madinah.
She offered fateha at the grave side of the Prophet (SM) in Madinah.
Apart from religious rituals Khaleda also exchanged pleasantries with world Muslim leaders in Makkah including Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif, the prime minister of Lebanon, the president of Yemen, ameer of Qatar and president of Niger, who also went Saudi Arabia to perform umrah, said BNP
chairperson’s special emissary to Saudi Arabia M Enamul Haque Chowdhury.
The BNP chairperson left Dhaka for Saudi Arabia on July 27.
