Khaleda wants to go to power killing people: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said, though the army backed caretaker government could not succeed in implementing its design after coming to power in 2007, it would complete its unfinished job if it comes to power again. She recalled that the previous caretaker government spared no section of the society from their torture and intimidation. The Prime Minister was addressing a view-exchange meeting with the grassroots leaders from Netrokona district at her Gonobhaban residence.
Referring to opposition leader Khaleda Zia’s demand for restoring the caretaker government system, the Prime Minister said, “How could Begum Zia be so confident that the next caretaker government will not put her in jail again?”
“Those who have attached their profound confidence to the non-political caretaker government system, may go to jail again if the caretakers come to power”. She also said, those not having the ability to go to power through people’s mandate, are favouring the caretaker government system so that they would have a scope to go to power.
“They always wait for such opportunities,” she
said adding people of Bangladesh would never accept them and any undemocratic means.
Hasina observed that no caretaker government but a political one can resolve any political crisis of the country.
In this connection, she pointed out, Bangladesh was liberated through a democratic process according to political decisions. Similarly, the country achieved every success through democratic process.
Reminding the August 21, 2004 grenade attack on her, Sheikh Hasina said, Begum Zia tried to grab power even through killing me. BNP, born from the womb of military dictators, always thinks to go to power over dead bodies, she said.
Criticising the opposition leader’s recent remarks and destructive agitation across the country that led to death of many innocent people, the Prime Minister said, Begum Zia wanted to go to the power by using Hefajat-e-Islam.
“Such destructive activities would not help her gain the trust of the masses,” she said adding, “People put their trust in us and they have supported our actions against the unruly activities.”
The Prime Minister said, her government had called for dialogue to find a way out for next election. But, the opposition leader answered to that by giving a 48-hour ultimatum.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday alleged that Opposition Leader Khaleda Zia had tried to hang on to power by killing her through the August 21 grenade attack in 2004.
The opposition leader had tried to remain in power by killing me, she said.
She said the opposition leader always thinks to go to power stepping on dead bodies as did her husband (Ziaur Rahman). “This time Khaleda wanted to go to power by using Hefajat-e-Islam.”
Twenty-four AL leaders and activists, including its frontline leader Ivy Rahman, were killed and over 500 others injured in the grenade attack on an AL rally at Bangabandhu Avenue. Hasina also suffered injuries in her ears.
BSS adds: While delivering her introductory speech at a coordination meeting of 14-party at her official Ganabhaban residence the Prime Minster today said the opposition leader wants to invite 1/11 like situation in the country again by issuing ultimatum and threat to the government.
“It is my doubt whether a conspiracy is being hatched to bring back the 1/11 like situation in the country through the issuance of ultimatum by the opposition,” she said.
The Prime Minister said the opposition leader now wanted to push the country towards a horrific situation that was prevailed in the country during the rule of the past army-backed caretaker government.
Calling upon the people to remain alert to the evil design of the opposition, Sheikh Hasina said the people will have to decide whether they want to return to that tyranny rule of the caretaker.
The caretaker government, she said, had taken a plan to take the country ‘permanent settlement’ for 10 years by lingering its rule and wanted to form a national government to avert the election.
“They have played dirty games and put up barricade on all the
ways of the progress of the country,” she said.
Recalling the torture and repression of the caretaker government during their two-year rule, the Prime Minister said politicians, businessmen, students, teachers- none could escape from their torture and repression.
