In an instant reaction to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s announcement that her party would not take part in elections under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, eminent jurist Barrister Shadhin Malik said, Khaleda’s announcement is not unexpected following the imposition of ban on rallies and processions in the capital. A ray of hope for resolution of the ongoing crisis was emerged after the prime minister’s nationwide address, but it has evaporated following imposition of a ban on rallies and processions in Dhaka.
“So under this circumstance BNP chairperson’s rejection to take part in the polls under the prime minister is not unexpected” he explained.
He felt that the scope for the peaceful resolution of the political impasse has shrunk now after BNP chairperson’s remarks.
“This is very unfortunate as the nation wants to see a compromise between the two major parties over the current political stalemate” he added.
