The physicians of all government and private hospitals in Khulna on Tuesday observed a two-hour work abstention from 9:00am, demanding immediate arrest of and exemplary punishment to the killer of physician Gouranga Das. The physicians, however, provided treatment in the emergency departments of the hospitals and clinics. Due to the two-hour work abstention, patients coming to the hospitals had to suffer a lot to receive treatment.
They observed the work abstention as per a prior announcement made in a rally of Khulna unit of Bangladesh Medical Association at Shaheed Milon Square at Sat Rasta area in the city Monday noon.
According to the announcement, the physicians will also observe the programme today and tomorrow to press home their demand.
Gouranga, 52, owner of Maitri Nursing Home at Phulbarigate in Khulna city and also a life member of Bangladesh Medical Association, was hacked to death allegedly by the sacked manager of his nursing home, Md Rasel, on November 17.
