Kim Kardashian has spoken out about her mum Kris Jenner influenced her decision to divorce Kanye West.
While the pair both may have moved on – with the Kardashian having gotten into a relationship with SNL star Pete Davidson and West – now known as Ye – with Chaney Jones – the pair’s divorce only fully went through last month.
Kardashian has since opened up about the reasons why she decided to file for a divorce, citing momager Jenner as a heavy influence.
In a preview of her interview on the podcast Making Space, which is run by Today’s Hoda Kotb, Kardashian explained that she’d seen her mum ‘stay in a relationship too long when she wasn’t as happy’ which made her realise that people around her would ‘heal quicker’ if she made ‘the move instead of not being [her] authentic self and not finding [her] inner peace’.
She said: “My mom used to always cry to me when I was in these bad relationships and, you know, college and years ago, and she used to say: ‘All I want for my kids and all I want for you is peace of mind.’
“And when I woke up and realised that I didn’t have that, that’s all I was looking for.”
Last February, Kardashian echoed a similar sentiment in an interview with Vogue.
She said: “For so long, I did what made other people happy. And I think in the last two years I decided, I’m going to make myself happy. And that feels really good.
“And even if that created changes and caused my divorce, I think it’s important to be honest with yourself about what really makes you happy. I’ve chosen myself. I think it’s OK to choose you.”
Despite reflecting that she wished her relationship with West had ‘turned out differently,’ the Skims founder resolved that her dealing with the situation showed her ‘a lot of personal strength’.
She said: “I was really a people-pleaser and I wanted everyone else to be happy, that I finally was like: ‘Why am I measuring and trying to make other people happy over myself?’
“And that takes a lot of strength to do, even if you know that it’ll make your kids upset, as well, for a time period.
“One day they’re going to grow up and be out of the house, and it’s just going to be me, and I’m going to have to sit there with my happiness.”
