Kiran Chandra Roy has already achieved popularity as a baul singer for his distinctive singing style and presentation at live concerts.
The Prominent singer is set to release his latest solo album featuring some uncommon Lalon songs.
According to the singer the album titled Kon Deshe Taar Jay Re Disha includes eight songs such as Bisoy bishe chanchala mon, Kopaler naam Gopal Chandra, Goney porey sorali dosha and Teen ghorey achherey ek chhele.
‘I was really careful regarding the selection of songs for the album or any album I am set to launch,’ told Roy, who also shared that the songs have to be among his favourites and at the same time popular among the mass.
However, most of the songs of the upcoming album are not very familiar to the Lalon song fans. Roy shared that the popular songs of Lalon have been presented thousands of times on different occasions, so he took the opportunity to introduce comparably less familiar songs to the listeners.
‘Above all, I always perform the songs that suit my voice,’ added Roy, who has already released about 30 solo albums on folk songs.
Roy also informed that the music director is Amit Chattapadhyay, renowned music director from Kolkata, West Bengal. ‘We have used only local and not any western musical instruments in the album as I wanted to preserve the true essence of Lalon songs,’ further informed Roy.
The singer hoped that the launching ceremony of the album will be held right before Eid-Ul-Fitr. The album will be released under the banner of Bengal Foundation.
Baul virtuoso Kiran Chandra Roy won the National Award in 1997 as the best playback singer and the BACHSAS Best Singer Award. He also won the second place among 88 contestants in the International Folk Festival held in China.
