Former Pakistani paceman Aaqib Javed said that in order to prepare oneself as a good fast bowler one must assess himself and practice accordingly. Aaqib passed another day with the Bangladeshi pacer on Thursday and gave them some tips as part of his short-term training with them. ‘If you know which category you belong to, then your life will be easier,’ Aaqib told to young Bangladeshi pacers.
‘We discussed rate yourself where you are, who you are. There are different traits the bowlers have – Shoaib Akhtar, Brett Lee and Shaun Tait had pace while bounce of Joel Garner and Mohammad Irfan and survival with swing and some pace – Shaun Pollock, Chaminda Vaas, Mohammad Asif.
‘Then people who have to create illusions with difficult actions – [Laisth] Malinga, Mustafizur [Rahman], Sohail Tanveer. If you know which
category you belong to, then your life will be easier. You’ll have a better understanding of your role in the team.
‘Once you do, you will have understanding of the challenges in front of you,’ said Aaqib.
Aaqib also told the bowlers that one must practice enough to get some success.
‘We discussed and were convinced at one point that perfect practice makes a man perfect. Today in the morning session we discovered that there is intelligent hard work that leads you towards betterment.
‘If you are confident that I can bowl six out of six yorkers, only then you will survive under pressure situations. If you think you can bowl three out of six, you aren’t ready. You should know you’re not ready. Until you’re not ready in practice, you can’t expect miracles.’
Aaqib also told that he found some exciting young talents. He believed Abul Hasan has some real potential though he has been through many injuries. He also had good hope on young bowler Ebadat Hossain, who works for Air force.
‘I wrote a few names like Ebadat Hossain, Abu
Hider, Abu Jayed Chowdhury and Abul Hasan. I think Raju [Abul Hasan] has potential but he had injuries, problems with confidence. He has got pace, good body and action. But he has to come out of that phase.
‘Ebadat is bowling 138-140 with his physique. Coaches told me he will go back and join the Air Force and stop practicing. I think somebody should give him a contract or a job that is related to cricket.
‘He reminded me of Mohammad Irfan. We worked on him for six months and made him ready for first-class cricket. If he can build a decent body, he can be a future Bangladesh fast bowler.’
