Contemporary singer Dilshad Nahar Kona entertained the houseful audience on Saturday presenting her popular numbers. The young versatile singer performed songs of different tastes and genres including soft pop, pop and melodic numbers from her three albums at the solo show held at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre in Gulshan.
She also rendered Tagore and Nazrul songs, popular traditional numbers and a few cover songs in her show that went on for more than two hours.
The concert began with presentation of her hit number Barsha. The audience enjoyed her melodic voice modulation while presenting the raga based soft pop number.
She also earned appreciations from the audience rendering her other hit numbers such as Dheem Tana and Prajapoti.
Kona, who was groomed as a Nazrul singer, proved her skills over the genre through her rendition of a raga based Nazrul song tilted Anjali laho mor.
The audience also enjoyed her recital of a Tagore song titled Eso shyamolo sundoro, which appeared a somewhat distinct from the conventional presentation of Tagore singers.
It was a different experience for the audience as the popular pop singer presented some traditional numbers such as Tumi kon ba deshe, Modhu hoi hoi bish and Sona bondhe.
She also rendered cover songs such as Ki likhi tomai originally recorded by Lata Mangeshkar, Khub chena chena and Jete dao amai dekhona originally recorded in the voice of Asha Bhosle, Mitali Mukherjee’s Harano Diner moto, Runa Laila’s O mera babu chail chabila and Sabina Yasmin’s Eki sonar aloi.
She concluded the show with a Sufi number Dama dam mast qalandar, which has been rendered by many legendary singers of the subcontinent.
From an early age, Kona has been trained in classical vocal music, Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Sangeet and Lalon Sangeet.
She released her first solo music album in 2006 titled Jamitic Bhalobasha comprising of soft pop-based songs that drew huge attention
from the music lovers of the country.
Her second solo album titled Fuad Featuring Kona was released in 2008.
Kona released her third solo musical album– Simply Kona in 2011 in which two of the songs were composed by Sri Lankan singer-composer Iraj Weeraratne.
For this album, Kona along with Iraj were nominated for Hollywood Music Media Award 2011 for the track Your Love in the Pop Category.
In 2012,
Kona released her music video album of her earlier audio music album Simply Kona that featured her as the model.
