Asha Bhosle was felicitated with the Pt Hridaynath Mangeshkar Lifetime Achievement Award by her
elder sister Lata Mangeshkar in a concert on Sunday.
The show was packed as Asha performed in Mumbai after 15 years, reports Times of India.
Lata blessed Asha by touching her forehead. Reciprocating the gesture by touching Lata’s feet, Asha said, ‘To receive an award from Lata Mangeshkar is a huge honour for anyone. I’ve always craved for appreciation from her.’
Lata revealed, ‘Asha left the house when she was 14. She has worked so hard to achieve this. She did it on her own. She still does riyaz, by listening to our father’s records. I don’t.’ Lata, who doesn’t sit through any shows, did so on Asha’s request and was seen clicking pictures of Asha’s performance.
Asha regaled the audience with a classical jugalbandi with brother, Pt Hridaynath, random gags, catwalk, mimicry and her spontaneous dance moves! Touted as rivals for years, the sisters laughed their hearts out. Rubbishing stories of sibling rivalry, Asha said, ‘No matter what people say, five fingers of a hand will always stick together.’ But, the highlight of the evening was Asha singing the iconic lavni Reshmachya Reghani Lata style! She also announced that she would add to the prize money and donate it to the CM’s fund for drought-stricken areas of Maharashtra.
