Torture on Limon
Left parties demand judicial probe
Different left-leaning political parties on Friday protested against filing murder case against mother of Limon Hossain and his family members and demanded judicial enquiry into the allegation of tortures on Limon by members of Rapid Action Battalion.
The central steering committee of the Democratic Left Alliance, a combine of the left-leaning political parties in a press statement condemned filing of a murder case against the family members of Limon who was tortured by RAB and called upon the Awami League-led government to take steps to withdraw the case.
The coordinator of the combine Zonayed Saki and the steering committee members in a joint statement said the law and order situation in the country would deteriorate if the case filed was not withdrawn.
Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal demanded a neutral judicial probe into the allegation of torture on Limon by RAB to save him and his family members.
The party also condemned filing the ‘false’ case against Limon Hossain and his family members, attack on him and his family members and the police final report showing that the battalion was innocent.
‘There should be a neutral judicial probe into the entire incident of attack on college student Limon on March 23, 2011 and the latest happenings centring him,’ said the party general secretary Khalequzzaman in a press statement.
‘This type of incident is conspiratory on the one hand and on the other it shows utter failure of the law enforcers to ensure safety and security of a citizen of the country,’ said the statement.
The statement also said, ‘The way members of RAB and police have launched attacks on innocent college student Limon Hossain to destroy his life has generated a deep grievance among people of the country.’
The party hoped the government would take immediate measures to ensure justice for Limon and his family members showing respect to the rule of law and human rights.
Ibrahim Howlader, known as an informer of the RAB, on Thursday filed a case with Jhalakathi Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court, accusing Limon’s father Tofazzal Hossain Akon, his mother Henoara Begum, elder brother Sumon Hossain Akon and seven others of killing Forkan Howlader, his brother-in-law.
