Paintings revealing daily life of average people were displayed at the solo painting exhibition of artist Munawer Mehedi at Shilpangan Gallery in the capital.
The human figure paintings, which had mostly been done in oil and a few acrylics, portray workers who toil rigorously for livelihood of their families. Mehedi depicted garment workers, sweepers, paddy farmers, a home making mother among others. In total, 30 artworks have been displayed.
A group of female garment workers on their way to work has been illustrated in Mehedi’s oil painting titled Going to Work. The painting catches attention of the spectators due to its bright colours and also for the rejuvenating smile on the faces of the girls.
Another painting Foggy Morning, an acrylic on canvas, also reveals three female garment workers going to work on a chilly winter morning. The artist has succeeded to recreate a foggy atmosphere in his artwork through careful strokes of his brush.
Memories of childhood have been an inspiration for several artists. As a painter, Mehedi captured precious memories with his father in an oil painting titled With My Dad, in which a father is carrying his little son on his shoulder.
The emotional bond between a mother and her child has been emphasised in another oil painting called Mother and Child. A child playing on his mother’s lap depicted in the painting touches the hearts of the viewers.
Inaugurated on April 13, the exhibition remained open until Friday.
