Normal life and businesses returned to the capital on Monday as the dwellers experienced sunlight Monday afternoon after four days of incessant rains in
the city and the southeast regions that caused immense sufferings.
There was no heavy downpour from Sunday night too. Flood situation in Dhaka, Narayanganj, Noakhali, Bandarban, Cox’s Bazar and Satkania, Chandanaish, Lohagara, Banskhali and Anwara upazila of Chittagong has also improved to some extent.
Water from most submerged areas of those districts started receding from early Monday.
However, monsoon still remains active over Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Meteorological Department has advised the maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Mongla to keep hoisted local cautionary signal number-3 and the fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay to stay close to the coast until further notice.
The met office forecast that no heavy rainfall would occur in the next couple of days across the country.
It recorded 135 millimetre highest rainfall in Kutubdia of Cox’s Bazar in the last 24 hours starting from 6:00am on Sunday to 6:00am on Monday.
The Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre, however, said water level of all major rivers was in rising trend, which may continue in next 72 hours commencing at 6:00am on Monday due to onrush of water from upper catchments. But no river crossed their danger marks.
Chittagong port began its normal activities on Monday following the cease in the rainfalls, said Chittagong Port Authority secretary Syed Farhad Uddin.
