The family of Limon Hossain, a college student maimed by Rapid Action Battalion, left their home on Friday as they felt insecure after a Jhalakathi court ordered the police to record a murder case against them.
Rajapur police officer-in charge Tofazzal Hossain said he was yet to receive the court order.
After receiving the order, the police would act as per law to arrest 10 people made accused in the case, including Limon’s parents, brother and relatives, he said.
Post-mortem report is not necessary for arresting an accused after a murder case has been recorded, the police officer said.
Ibrahim Hawlader, known as an informant of the RAB, filed the case with
the Jhalakathi Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court on August 23, accusing Limon’s father Tofazzal Hossain Akon, his mother Henwara Begum, elder brother Sumon Hossain Akon, maternal uncle Siddique Hossain and six others of killing Forkan Hawlader, his brother-in-law.
Forkan reportedly died of a heart attack on the Eid day on August 20, when Ibrahim, also a prosecution witness in the case lodged by the RAB against Limon, and his men attacked and injured Limon and his mother.
Limon, who had his left leg amputated after being shot at by RAB personnel on March 23, 2011, told New Age on Friday, ‘To avoid arrest and police harassment, my mother, brother and maternal uncle have left the house and gone into hiding and I am now living alone at a rented room in Kaukhali upazila town in Pirojpur with sickness caused by the beating on the Eid day.’
His father Tofazzal Hossain, who was at his work place in Dhaka during the incident, is also trying to go into hiding, Limon said.
