Former table tennis player Zobera Rahman Linu signed a two-year contract with local electronics giant Walton on Wednesday to become its sports ambassador.
Linu, a world record holder for winning most number of national titles who found her name in Guiness Book of World Record, will represent Walton in the local and foreign sports competitions with a monthly wage of Tk 20,000 and other facilities.
It was revealed by SM Zahidul Hasan, the executive director of Walton.
‘It is an honour rather than money and I believe I will be able to inspire the girls to take sports as a resource of life,’ Linu said at a press conference after signing the agreement.
‘Moreover, it is a double delight for me as this year I have completed my 40th year in sports arena.’ said a delighted Linu.
Linu started playing table tennis at the age of eight and became national champion at the age of 12. She took the crown 16 more times between 1977 and 2001 to set up the world record.
