Bangladeshi Women’s International Master Shamima Akter Liza maintained her solo lead in the women’s section of the Asian Zonal Chess Championship (Zone 3.2) securing full 5 points after the 5th round matches in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo on Tuesday.
Pakistani International Master Mahmud Ahmed Lodhi took solo lead in the open section of the meet collecting 4.5 points after the 5th round matches.
Three Bangladeshi Grandmasters—National Champion Niaz Murshed, Ziaur Rahman and Reefat Bin Sattar—followed the leader neck and neck securing 4 points each.
Another Bangladeshi GM Enamul Hossain Razib earned 3 points from five matches.
In Tuesday’s 5th round matches, Zia beat Razib, Niaz drew with Reefat, Liza beat WIM Ranasinghe (Sri Lanka) and Sharmin Sultana Shirin lost to Methmini Nelinika (Sri Lanka).
The 6th round matches were scheduled for Wednesday evening.
In the 6th round matches, Niaz was scheduled to play against Zia, Reefat against Lodhi, Liza against Alahakoon Isuru (Sri Lanka) and Senarath Kavindi (Sri Lanka) against Shirin.
