The five-day long Dhaka-Sundarbans long march, demanding cancellation of the proposed thermal power plant project in Rampal near the Sundarbans, will start on Tuesday.
The long march will start around 10 am from in front of the Jatiya Press club in the capital. The National committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral resources, Power and Ports declared it in a press release on Monday. Sheikh Shahidullah, convener of the committee, and its member secretary Prof. Anu Muhammad urged everyone to take part in the long march and make it successful, to protect the Sundarbans.
From the Jatiya Press Club, the long march will move to Shahbagh, Science Laboratory, Shyamoli, Gabtoli, Savar, Jahangirnagar Univerisity, Dhamrai, to Manikganj, where a public meeting will be held.
On September 25, the marchers will reach Faridpur via Goalondo and Rajbari. On September 26, they will reach Jessore via Madhukahli-Kamarkhali, Magura, Jhenaidaha and Kaliganj.
On Sept 27, they will reach Khulna via Fultala, Doulatput and Khalishpur. On Sept 28, the marchers will reach Tigraj (Sundarbans) via Bagherhat, Kantakhali and Chulkathi. The concluding public rally will be held at Tigraj and the “Sundarbans Declaration” will be read out there on Sept 28 in the afternoon.
