Fahima Islam Lopa, wife of Milky murder suspect Maruf Reza Sagar, on Sunday confessed before a magistrate that she and her husband were involved in the killing of the Juba League leader.
Riazul Haque Khan Milky, the organising secretary of Juba League’s Dhaka City Unit (South), youth wing of ruling Awami League, was gunned down in front of the entrance of the Shoppers’ World in the Gulshan area of the capital early on Tuesday. The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Lopa on Saturday.
Lopa, 25, made her confessional statement on Sunday afternoon under Section 164, admitting her role in murdering Milky by providing the killer information about his whereabouts.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan recorded her statement after the RAB 1 official, assistant superintendent of police Md Kazimur Rashid and the investigation officer of the case produced Lopa in the court on Sunday.
Confessing her role as an informant of Tareq, Lopa said she had informed Tareq about Milky’s whereabouts on the day of the murder. She said according to her plan, her husband, Sagar, took Milky to Gulshan in his own car from his Mohammadpur residence on July 30.
Lopa allegedly had an illicit relation with Jubo League’s joint secretary of Dhaka City (south) unit Zahid Siddique Tareq, the prime suspect in the Milky murder case.
She added that Tareq had earlier planned to kill Milky during Jamaat-e-Islami’s four-day hartal from July 15 to 18, but as she could not inform him about the latter’s whereabouts at the time, the plan was shelved.
Tareq and one of his accomplices were killed in the crossfire during a gunfight between the RAB and an unidentified gunmen on Wednesday night in Khlikhet area of the city.
Lieutenant Colonel Ziaul Ahsan, chief of the RAB Intelligence wing, told The Independent, “Lopa admitted that she and her husband were involved in the killing of Milky during the primary interrogation.” After recording the confessional statement, the court sent Lopa to jail.
