Host Madaripur became champion in the Zone-B competitions of the Exim Bank 20th National Women Handball Championship defeating Jessore 10-6 in the final at Madaripur Stadium on Monday.
The winners led the first half 6-3. Sipra scored the highest five goals for Madaripur, while Bilkis netted four for Jessore.
Deputy Commissioner of Madaripur Shashi Kumar Singh distributed prizes among the winners after the final as chief guest.
Both teams – champion Madaripur and runners-up Jessore – won the tickets for the final round of the national women handball competition, to be held in May next in Faridpur.
Ten teams took part in the Zone-B competitions of the qualifying round of Exim Bank 20th National Women Handball Championship. The teams are: Jhalakathi, Jessore, Khulna, Bagerhat, Narail, Gopalganj, Satkhira, Patuakhali, Kustia and the hosts Madaripur.
The Zone-A competitions will be held from April 9 to 11 in Rangpur and the Zone-C will be hosted by Rangamati from April 25 to 27.
Bangladesh Ansar and VDP, Dhaka and Faridpur are playing directly in the final round of the competition.
