National team captain Mamunul Islam, left-back Atiqur Rahman Meshu and expatriate midfielder Jamal Bhuiyan were the three senior members selected for the forthcoming 17th Asian Games, national football team coach Lodewijk de Kruif on Wednesday.
The withdrawal by the two experienced strikers, Zahid Hasam Ameli and Mithun Chowdhury, from the training camp made the Dutchman’s job easier.
Ameli, who is suffering from knee injury for the last one-and-a half months, left the camp on Tuesday after Kruif decided not to keep any half-fit player in his squad.
In-form Mithun was suffering from jaundice that put him out of contention.
‘Ameli told me that he was not fully fit to give his best so I dropped him,’ Kruif told reporters on Wednesday.
‘It’s sad that we won’t get Mithun’s services either also as he is suffering from jaundice,’ he added.
Kruif told Jamal Bhuiayn to join the training camp immediately as the midfielder is currently in Denmark.
