A man was killed on Monday in Naogaon by a group of young people after he had allegedly refused to marry off her sister to one of the group members.
The deceased was Babul Akter, 50, a brick-kiln worker and resident of Jagannathpur at Badalgachi in Noagaon.
The family members said a youth, Ripon, son of Abdus Sattar of the same village, had been stalking
Babul’s sister Tasnia Akhtar for long.
Ripon went to Babul’s house on December 30, 2010 with a proposal for marrying Tasnia. Babul refused the proposal.
The group of youths, led by Ripon, attacked Babul and beat him up on Monday morning, when Babul was returning home from the brick-kiln.
Babul was taken to Badalgachi Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Bogra Shahid Zia Medical College Hospital, where he died at 10:00pm.
A case was filed on Tuesday with the Badalgachi police against nine people.
The Badalgachi police officer-in-charge, Wahaduzzaman, however, said Babul was killed by the youths in connection with a previous feud over union parishad election in 2003.
The police arrested Abdus Sattar, son of late Fazlur Rahman, and Taizul, son of Saban Ali, of the same village in this connection.
The body was handed over to the family after autopsy.
Babul is the latest victim after a group of youths allegedly beat Ratan Bhuiyan to death for protesting against their stalking of his daughter-in-law at Raipura in Narsingdi on Monday.
Harassment and stalking of girls and women emerged as one of the major human rights concerns in 2010.
