Dr Imran H Sarkar, convener of the Ganajagaran Mancha, on Wednesday said that if the government does not appeal against the ICT verdict on Ghulam Azam, the Mancha would go to the superior court to seek death penalty for the Jamaat leader.“We have urged the government to appeal against the ICT verdict delivered that sentenced the top Jamaat leader to 90 years in jail. But the government did not take any initiative. If it hesitates to take any further action, the Ganajagaran Mancha would appeal against the verdict,” he told reporters at Shahbagh Square.

Talking about the ICT verdict in the case of Ali Ahsan Mohammed Mojahid, Sarker said the verdict was pending for a long time. He also noted that Mojahid had committed crimes during the Liberation War, killing a large number of innocent people, including journalist Sirujuddin Hossain and composer Altaf Mahmud, and after 42 years he had been given the sentence for which the whole nation was eagerly waiting.
