Former Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra coach Maruful Haque made an appeal to the Bangladesh Football Federation on Saturday to lift his one-year ban from football slapped by the disciplinary committee on August 24. Maruf, the treble winning coach of Sheikh Russell KC, was suspended for one year and fined Tk 30,000 when he demanded that the Professional Football League Committee members should step down after accusing them of rescheduling a match to favour a big club in February this year.
Maruful failed to appeal to the BFF Appeals Committee within the stipulated time as he was in the UK during that time to complete the second part of his UEFA pro-licence course.
‘We have received Maruful Haque’s appeal for lifting his suspension,’ said BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Sohag on Saturday.
‘We will refer this to the Appeals Committee and they will take the final decision after reviewing the issue,’ Sohag added.
Maruf, however, apologised for his comments after a show-cause notice was served on him by the BFF.
‘I have been suspended for something that I have already apologised for. I never meant to belittle anyone. I have appealed to lift my ban. Now let’s see what happens’, said Maruful Haque after submitting his letter of appeal to the BFF.
