Maruful Haque was appointed as the head coach of the Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra on Monday, a week after he was sacked by the Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club. Maruf replaced Montenegrin Dragan Dukanovic to take the charges of his former club with whom he won treble- Federation Cup, Independence Cup and Bangladesh Premier League back on 2012-13 season. Maruf expressed his happiness and confidence after the appointment.
‘As a professional coach, I am happy to return to the old club,’ Maruf told reporters.
‘I will be enjoying it because it is a challenge for me to take Sheikh Russell to the top and I think it is very much possible to make Sheikh Russell champions,’ added the confident coach, who will start his training from today.
Russell manager Jewel Rana said the poor result in Bangladesh Premier League first phase prompted the club to dismiss Dukanovic.
‘The team management was not happy with Dragan Dukanovic, who could not bring the results as expected, so they decided to appoint Maruful,’ he said.
Russell trail table-toppers Jamal by three after the Bangladesh Premier League first phase. .
Maruf guided Jamal to win Federation Cup and Bhutan’s King’s Cup earlier in the season before kept the club on the top of the point table in BPL’s first leg.
