A mayoral aspirant, whose nomination paper was cancelled by the returning officer in the Sylhet City Corporation, filed an appeal with the divisional
commissioner Thursday afternoon challenging the decision.
The appellant Nasim Hossain, also the Sylhet city BNP vice-president, after filing the appeal in the afternoon, told New Age that he was hopeful that his candidature would be declared valid by the election tribunal.
‘Although I submitting all required documents with my nomination paper, the election commission cancelled it during the scrutiny. So, I am hopeful that it would be announced valid by the divisional commissioner,’ Nasim Hossain added.
Being conducted, Sylhet divisional commissioner NM Ziaul Alam told New Age that he had received the appeal filed by a willing candidate for the mayoral post in the SCC polls scheduled for June 15.
‘Result of the appeal would be declared on Friday after holding a hearing in this regard,’ the divisional commissioner said.
