A college student was stabbed to death by unidentified
miscreants in the Sylhet city Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Ahmed Imtiaz Parvez, 23, a third year economics student of Sylhet MC College and son of Mazamil Ali of village Chanpur under sadar upazila in the district, the police said.
Eyewitnesses said five miscreants, coming in two motorcycles, stopped the CNG-run auto-rickshaw carrying Parvej in front of the Pathantula Primary School in the city at around 3:30pm.
The auto-rickshaw driver Sadiqur told New Age that the miscreants, wearing helmets, forced Parvej out of the vehicle and left him critically injured by stabbing him with sharp weapons.
Parvej was returning home from his college and he boarded the auto-rickshaw at Ambarkhana in the city, local sources said.
Sadiqur, with the help of local people, took the victim to the Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
But, he died due to excessive bleeding barely half an hour after he was taken to the hospital, on-duty doctors said.
Parvej’s relative Zahed Ahmed at the SOMCH said Parvej was not involved in any political party.
Kotwali police officer-in-charge Ataur Rahman said reason behind the killing could not ascertained immediately.
‘The attackers were not muggers,’ the police officer said.
