Mehedy Hasan and captain Mosaddek Hossain blasted sparkling centuries to cap a fine comeback by the Bangladesh Under-19 team after the end of the third day’s play of the first four-day match against the Sri Lankan Under-19 team at Mirpur on Friday.
Mehedy scored 105 from 171 balls while Mosaddek posted 107 off 229 deliveries as the young Tigers made 397 in their first innings before being bowled out to concede a 25-run lead.
The Sri Lankan Under-19 team were 67-2 in their second innings, an overall lead of 92 runs with eight wickets remaining.
Earlier, resuming the third day on 176-3, the Bangladesh Under-19 team made a fine start as Mehedy and Mosaddek added 100 more runs in their fourth-wicket stand.
Mehedy struck 14 boundaries in his 260-minute stay at the crease while skipper Mosaddek hit 13 fours and three sixes in his 319-minute vigil at the wicket.
In total, the pair put on 166 runs to lead their team to a commendable position from which they could try to enforce a victory.
For the visitors, AK Tyronne was the standout bowler as he took 7-142 in his 46.2 overs to halt the hosts from reaching the 400-run mark.
As the Sri Lankan Under-19 team began their second innings, they lost two wickets before the umpires brought an end to the day’s proceedings. Skipper Kusal Mendis (25) and Sandun Weerakkody (4) were the unbeaten batsmen at the crease.
