The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) is set to launch metro rail services on Fridays soon. Currently, the services are closed on Fridays.
MAN Siddique, managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, told media on Monday that the company started preparatory work on the day to start services on Fridays too.
The company is the implementing agency of the 20.1-kilometre-long country’s first-ever electricity-powered elevated and air-conditioned rail system on Uttara-Motijheel route in the capital.
He said that they were planning to start the services from after Jumma prayers on Fridays.
‘After the prayers and having lunch people can avail our services – that is our target,’ he added.
Some insiders said that usually the number of passengers remain fewer during the morning time of weekly and other holidays.
Recently the interim government has taken initiative to announce metro rail as an emergency service to ensure safety of this service.
After over a month metro rail services were resumed on August 25.
The trains, however, do not stop at the damaged Mirpur 10 and Kazipara stations which were vandalised during the anti-discrimination movement.
