The Dhaka University authorities on Wednesday said that a two-day Research and Publication Fair in the central playground of Dhaka University would begin on October 22.
The fair, the first time of such kind in the history of the university, will showcase the innovations, research and publications of various departments, institutes, research centres of the university.
DU vice-chancellor professor Md Akhtaruzzaman disclosed the details of the fair to the media at a press conference held in Abdul Matin Virtual Classroom of the university.
According to the vice-chancellor, the fair is going to be organised with the aim of establishing academia-industry linkages and strengthening publication, research and innovation activities at the university.
Industries minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun will attend the opening ceremony of the fair as the chief guest while deputy education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel will be present as a guest of honour.
The fair will have a total of 13 pavilions, including 10 for faculties, one for institutes, one for publishing houses and one for research centres. Besides, there will be one central stage.
In the fair, important publications such as books, journals, research projects, posters, flyers, brochures will be displayed and presented, including the publications published on the occasion of the Centenary of Dhaka University.
The fair is expected to feature 50 books, 26 specialised journals, 216 research projects, 624 posters and 86 flyers/promotions.
Every faculty, department, institute and centre of the university will participate in the fair and each will make a presentation.
At the closing ceremony on October 23, the poetry, essay and photography competition will be held on the occasion of Dhaka University centenary.
The best article writers of the special issue of each journal published on the occasion of the centenary will be awarded certificates, crests and prize money.
Besides, prizes will also be awarded to the first, second and third poster presenters presented by each faculty, institute and centre.
The fair will remain open from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
